The world
was whole because
it shattered. When it shattered,
then we knew what it was.

It never healed itself.
But in the deep fissures, smaller worlds appeared:
it was a good thing that human beings made them;
human beings know what they need,
better than any god.

I had many lives. Feeding
into a river, the river
feeding into a great ocean. If the self
becomes invisible has it disappeared?

That’s what the sea is:
we exist in secret.

El mundo
estaba intacto porque
se hizo añicos. Al hacerse añicos
supimos entonces lo que era.

Nunca sanó.
Pero en las profundas grietas aparecieron mundos más
pequeños:
fue una suerte que los seres humanos los construyeran;
los seres humanos saben mejor que ningún dios lo que les hace falta.

Mis vidas eran múltiples. Desaguaban
en un río, el río
desaguaba en un gran océano. Si el yo
se vuelve invisible, ¿acaso desaparece?

Eso es el mar:
Existimos en secreto.
