Passage 1
It is not a matter of simply placing two signposts at the starting point, one reading "Path
of Good" and the other warning "Path of Evil," and saying to those who come along:
"Choose." What must be done, as Christ did, is to show those who have been tempted by
appearances the ways that lead from the second path back to the first. And above all, the
beginning of these ways must not be too painful, must not seem too inaccessible.

Passage 2
Why should we be more inflexible than Christ? Why insist on upholding the opinions of
this world, which shows itself harsh so that we may believe it strong, and reject along
with it those souls with bleeding wounds through which, like the infected blood of a sick
person, the evil of their past pours out — souls that only await a friendly hand to bandage
them and help heal their hearts?

Passage 1
Il ne s’agit pas de se contenter de placer au point de départ deux poteaux, l’un portant l’inscription
« Chemin du bien » et l’autre l’avertissement « Chemin du mal », et de dire à ceux qui
passent par là : « Choisissez ». Ce qu’il faut faire, à l’instar du Christ, c’est montrer à ceux qui
se sont laissés tenter par les apparences les chemins qui mènent du second au premier. Et surtout,
il faut que le début de ces chemins ne soit pas trop douloureux, qu’ils ne semblent pas
trop inaccessibles.

Passage 2
Pourquoi devrions-nous être plus intransigeants que le Christ ? Pourquoi nous obstiner à maintenir
les opinions de ce monde, qui se montre dur pour que nous le croyions fort, et rejeter
avec lui les âmes aux blessures sanglantes par lesquelles, comme le sang infecté d’un
malade, se déverse le mal de leur passé et qui n’attendent qu’une main amicale qui les
soutienne et les aide à guérir leur cœur ?
