Floating in the cave of Hypnos by Dagen Kipling.

Possessed by covetousness haunting my dreams
I awake to the whisper of my name upon your breath
Baptizing me in gripping possession
And yet I can only hear the faint echo of it now.
Terrified to forget, I sink the tips of my fingers into
The tempting flesh of forevermore
Kept alive by the grace of temporary beauties that burrow roots
Into every fold of my weakened spirit.
At the cusp of my souls cavern, the withered poppy petals maintain their beauty
All the same. Broken promises
Of perpetuity that carry no anger nor regret,
For every moment was eternal.
Our nights preserved in crystallized amber
Glitter gloriously in my chest.
I bear offerings to unmourned gods in hopes of reconciliation
How selfish can I be with anticlimactic
Actions against axiomatic realities that…
That I have drank the last sickly sweet
Sip of you, and yet I still taste you upon my palate.

Before I wash you down my bone dry throat, with the freezing cold indifference that only the river
Lethe offers; can I ask you something?

Quench my selfish search for truth:

Do you think we’ll be in love together?
